Chief's Corner

A Message from the Chief
Welcome to the McLean Police Department's website.
It is my honor to serve as your Chief of Police. McLean is a special place — a town with deep roots in ranching, the railroad, and Route 66, and a community where people still wave from their pickups and look out for one another. Our job is to protect that way of life.
Our officers are not strangers. They shop at the same stores, attend the same churches, and cheer for the same Tigers on Friday nights. That closeness is our greatest strength. When you know your officers by name, and they know you, problems get solved before they become emergencies.
We also serve thousands of travelers each year who stop in McLean on their way across Interstate 40 or to see the historic Mother Road. Whether you are a lifelong resident or just passing through, you can expect professional, courteous, and fair treatment from every member of this department.
I encourage you to explore this website, sign up for our vacation house watch, and contact us any time you have a concern. Our non-emergency number is (806) 395-5198. My door is always open.
Respectfully,
Quinn Ackerman
Chief of Police
The Chief's Priorities
1. Visible, Accessible Policing
Residents should see their officers every day — not only when something goes wrong. Chief Ackerman has directed officers to spend more time out of their patrol vehicles, walking downtown, visiting businesses, and stopping to talk with neighbors.
Accessibility also means answering the phone. The department's new non-emergency number, (806) 395-5198, was established to make sure residents can reach an officer quickly for any concern.
2. Traffic Safety on I-40, Route 66 & School Zones
With an interstate running along the edge of town, traffic is one of the greatest risks to public safety in McLean. The department focuses on reducing speeding through neighborhoods, protecting children in school zones, keeping pedestrians safe downtown during the busy Route 66 tourist season, and removing impaired drivers from the road.
3. Protecting Seniors from Scams & Fraud
Many of McLean's residents are retirees, and scammers know it. Phone scams, fake grandchildren in jail, lottery winnings, computer “tech support,” and law enforcement impersonators cost Texans millions every year. The department provides free scam awareness presentations and will help any resident who believes they have been targeted.
4. Youth & School Partnerships
Strong relationships with young people build a safer future. Officers participate in McLean ISD events, provide safety education, and work with school leaders on emergency preparedness. The Chief believes every child in McLean should see a police officer as someone they can trust.
5. Training, Transparency & Accountability
The Chief is committed to training that exceeds state minimums, clear written policies, and openness with the public. Residents are encouraged to share compliments and concerns, and every complaint receives a thorough and fair review.
