Records & Reports

The McLean Police Department maintains records of calls for service, offense reports, arrests, and crash investigations. Records are released in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code Chapter 552). Questions about records may be directed to the department at (806) 395-5198.

Offense & Incident Reports

Requesting a copy of a report

Victims and other parties may request a copy of an offense or incident report in person or in writing. When making a request, please include:

  • The case or incident number, if known
  • The date, time, and location of the incident
  • The names of the people involved
  • Your name, mailing address, phone number, and email

The “front page” or basic information of most reports is public. Other portions may be withheld while an investigation is open or as required by law to protect victims, juveniles, and witnesses.

Fees

Fees for copies of records are charged according to the rules of the Texas Attorney General's Office. Standard paper copies are generally $0.10 per page. Additional charges may apply for large requests, labor, or electronic media. You will be provided an itemized estimate before any charge over $40 is incurred.

Records that may be withheld
  • Information about an open investigation or pending prosecution
  • Records involving juveniles
  • Identifying information of sexual assault and family violence victims
  • Medical information and criminal history record information
  • Driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, and other personal identifiers

If the department believes information may be withheld, it will request a ruling from the Texas Attorney General within ten business days, as required by law, and notify the requestor.

Crash Reports

Crashes worked by McLean Police

Texas Peace Officer's Crash Reports (Form CR-3) are submitted to the Texas Department of Transportation. Copies are generally available about ten days after the crash and may be purchased through TxDOT's Crash Report Online Purchase System (CRIS). Involved parties may also request a copy from the department.

Crashes on Interstate 40

Many crashes on Interstate 40 near McLean are investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol. If a state trooper worked your crash, your report will be available through TxDOT CRIS rather than from the McLean Police Department.

Minor crashes with no injuries

For minor crashes with no injuries where vehicles can be driven, move vehicles out of traffic if safe, exchange driver's license, insurance, and vehicle information, and take photographs. Call the non-emergency line if you need an officer. If anyone is injured, a driver appears impaired, or a driver leaves the scene, call 9-1-1.

Other Records

Body-worn and dash camera recordings

Requests for recordings must be submitted in writing and must include the date and approximate time of the recording, the specific location, and the name of at least one person who is the subject of the recording, as required by Texas Occupations Code §1701.661.

Clearance letters & criminal history

The department can provide a local records check letter indicating whether a person has local arrest records with the McLean Police Department. Statewide criminal history is available through the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Service.

Racial profiling reports

Annual racial profiling reports submitted to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement are available for public review at the police department.
