Work is continuing on the restored 1928 Phillips 66 station on First Street, recognized as the first Phillips 66 station built in Texas. The station sold gasoline to Route 66 travelers for nearly fifty years before it officially closed in 1977.
The Texas Old Route 66 Association has been working to finish additional restoration phases, including restoring the vintage gasoline pumps and repairing brickwork on the small tile-roofed building. The station is one of the most photographed landmarks on the Texas stretch of the Mother Road.
Visitors are welcome to view and photograph the station from the sidewalk. Please be respectful of the ongoing work and do not climb on the pumps or enter any fenced work areas.
Drivers are reminded that First Street sees heavier foot traffic during the spring and summer travel season. Please slow down and watch for pedestrians crossing the street to take pictures.
